Information

Due to the success of our cabins, you’ll find a number of companies attempting to copy our designs. Whilst imitation can be flattering please be careful as more often than not they are selling lower grade cabins.

With this in mind we recommend you consult the following checklist which has been produced to ensure that you buy a quality product, regardless of whether you buy from us or another supplier.

Make sure that you see and touch a cabin before deciding to purchase one.

Pictures can be mis-leading and there is a great difference in quality between the various manufacturers.

Once you have seen and decided on the cabin you wish to purchase, take a photograph to ensure you receive a cabin of similar quality.

Check what is included in the price.

ie: delivery, veranda, floorboards etc.

Make sure your cabin is produced from slow grown timber.

Quick growing pine is cheaper but will eventually twist. If possible, make sure the wood comes from a sustainable forest with all the correct certification ie: PEFC.

Be careful that the dimensions of the cabin are correct.

We measure from wall to wall whereas a number of our competitors include protruding parts of the cabin thus making comparisons confusing.

Be careful of long delivery times.

It would also be advisable to do a credit check on the person/company selling you the cabin. There are a number of websites you can use to check their financial status.

Always check on planning.

The government has a web site, www.planning.odpm.gov.uk which is fairly self explanatory. In the majority of cases planning consent is not required but please contact your local council if you are in any doubt.

If possible, try to ensure that the cabin has toughened glass.

Beware of plastic, it will fade over time.

Always ensure your base is level.

A base that is not level will create problems in the future.

Always use a good preservative.

Buying a cheap preservative will cost you dear in the long run.

Using metal roof tiles with a 40 year guarantee will make so much difference to the cabin, both in looks and durability.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Are cabins pre-treated?
A: Lillevilla and Luoman cabins are not pre-treated due to the nature of their construction and therefore need to be treated within 2 weeks of installation. We recommend treating both the inside and outside, as well as applying silicone in the outside corner joints for extra protection.

Q: Will I need planning permission
for my Lillevilla?

A: Planning permission is not normally required for our smaller cabins providing it is 5 metres away from the main property, it does not exceed more than 50% of your total garden area and is under 4 metres in height. However, if you are in any doubt or live in a conservation area or listed building, please contact your local planning office or log onto www.planning.odpm.gov.uk

Q: What base is best for the cabin?
A:
A reinforced concrete slab with a minimum depth of 125mm is recommended for the base.

Q: Can I add extra windows and
doors to the cabin?

A: Extra windows and doors can be added at the time of ordering, they will however need to be cut into the building during installation.

Q: Is the wood from a
sustainable source?

A: Luoman take their responsibilities to the environment very seriously. After a lot of hard work, they have this year achieved certification from the Pan European Forestry Council (PEFC). It is also worth pointing out that 95% of all timber in Finland is considered to be certified.
